Internet that stays bonded to your vessel, wherever the water takes it

Ships and yachts don’t get to choose their coverage. Peplink connectivity systems bond Starlink, 5G, 4G, VSAT and Iridium into one resilient link, enabling operations, navigation and crew to stay online from harbour to open ocean.

Application

Maritime: ships, yachts, offshore and nearshore vessels, from harbour to open ocean

Project Scope

An Antenna MAX with a MAX BR1 Pro 5G and eSIM on the mast, Starlink, a Balance SDX Pro core router with SIM Injector, rugged PoE switching and Wi-Fi 6 for crew and guests, plus an Antenna MAX S with Starlink Mini for smaller craft

Outcome

Every WAN on board bonded into one SpeedFusion tunnel to shore, with the whole onboard network managed fleet-wide from InControl 2

The Challenge · Why standard internet fails at sea

The connectivity problem is different on water

Vessels move between coverage zones, single satellite links create single points of failure, and every megabyte can carry a cost. These are the challenges Peplink deployments are built to solve.

Moving between coverage zones

Coastal cellular, open-water satellite and harbour Wi-Fi all come and go as the vessel moves, and connections drop at every handover.

Single points of failure

A vessel relying on one satellite link loses everything the moment that link degrades or drops.

Every megabyte can cost

Satellite and roaming data are expensive, so traffic needs to use the most cost-effective link available.

Salt air, motion & metal hulls

Onboard hardware has to survive salt, vibration and constant motion, and steel hulls block signal below deck.

The Solution · SpeedFusion bonding

One resilient connection, built from several unreliable ones

Peplink routers combine every WAN source on board into a single SpeedFusion tunnel. If one link weakens or drops, traffic shifts to the others automatically. No dropped calls, no disconnected VPNs, no manual switching.

A Balance SDX Pro sits at the heart of the vessel network, bonding cellular from a MAX BR1 Pro 5G inside an Antenna MAX on the mast with Starlink. A SIM Injector keeps multiple carriers on hand, and a rugged SD Switch and AP One AX access points carry connectivity to the bridge, cameras, crew and guests.

Link TypeRoleDescription
5G / LTE (two carriers)Primary near shoreAn Antenna MAX on the mast houses a MAX BR1 Pro 5G with eSIM, and hands its cellular WAN to the Balance SDX Pro in Peplink Synergy Mode
StarlinkPrimary offshoreA Starlink terminal provides the LEO satellite WAN once the vessel is beyond cellular range
SIM InjectorCarrier switchingHolds up to 8 SIMs in a convenient location on board and provides them to the MAX BR1 Pro 5G remotely
VSAT / IridiumOptional extra WANsExisting satellite services can be added as further WAN links in the same bonded connection
Wi-Fi & LANOn boardAP One AX access points serve crew and guest areas, and the rugged SD Switch powers cameras and access points over PoE

All links are bonded into one SpeedFusion tunnel between the vessel and shore, with every device configured and monitored remotely through InControl 2.

SpeedFusion™

Bonding technology

SpeedFusion™ is Peplink’s patented technology designed to eliminate the vulnerabilities of traditional networking. By combining multiple WAN sources such as 5G, satellite, and wired into a single high-speed, resilient data pipe.

InControl 2

Cloud management

A cloud dashboard for configuring, monitoring and troubleshooting the entire onboard network remotely, giving you fleet-wide visibility from shore.

Customers obtain connectivity contracts with the relevant service providers directly. We can assist with 5G eSIM if needed.

The Result

Connected from harbour to open ocean

Every link on board works together as one connection. Operations, navigation and crew stay online as the vessel moves between coverage zones, and the shore team can see and manage the whole network remotely.

Seamless handover

SpeedFusion moves traffic between cellular and Starlink automatically as coverage changes.

Crew & guest Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi 6 access points bring dependable connectivity to crew and guest areas throughout the vessel.

Fleet-wide visibility from shore

InControl 2 configures, monitors and troubleshoots every vessel’s network remotely.

Instant connectivity with eSIM

Peplink routers embedded with an eSIM chipset are capable of using both BYO eSIM and Peplink eSIM.

No dropped calls, no disconnected VPNs, no manual switching.
