Agriculture · IoT & Remote Sites
Smart farming network even where the nearest cell tower is miles away
Peplink brings reliable, remotely managed connectivity to farms and agricultural operations, so modern tractors, drones, IoT sensors and head-office links keep working across fields that fixed-line broadband was never built to reach.
- Dozens of tractors equipped with IoT-ready connectivity
- Centralised SpeedFusion tunnel linking every farm back to headquarters
- Satellite used as automatic backup wherever fixed lines fall short
Application
Smart farming: connected tractors, field IoT sensors, outbuildings and farm office
Solution Components
BR2 LTE, Mobility Series Antenna, MAX BR1 Mini 5G, BR1 Mini M2M, BR1 Mini RedCap, Antenna MAX S with Starlink Mini, InControl 2, InTouch
Project Scope
Cellular routers and high-gain antennas on field equipment, compact IoT routers at outbuildings and sensor sites, and a Starlink Mini option for rapid standalone deployment
Outcome
Field devices and head-office systems run as one network, bonded through SpeedFusion and managed remotely from InControl 2
The Challenge
What farms are up against
Modern farming runs on data from machinery, sensors and tablets spread across land that fixed-line broadband rarely reaches. Connectivity has to work in the field, on the move and back at the office, often with very little technical support on site.
No fixed line in the field
Tractors and field equipment can't connect to a wired network. The connection has to move with the machine.
Choppy, unreliable coverage
Remote farms have relied on cheap Wi-Fi hotspots or mobile phone hotspots, both prone to significant downtime.
Dozens of devices, minimal IT staff
Equipping a dozen farms with tablets and sensors means configuring many devices at once, with little on-site technical support available.
Head office needs visibility too
A secure link back to headquarters is as essential as connectivity in the field, so operations data reaches the people managing it.
The Solution
How Peplink solves it
Peplink pairs cellular routers such as the BR2 LTE with a high-gain Mobility Series Antenna at the equipment level. Compact routers like the MAX BR1 Mini 5G and BR1 Mini M2M cover outbuildings, sensors and smart meters. Everything ties back to the farm office through a bonded SpeedFusion tunnel and is managed centrally, so field devices and HQ systems behave as one network.
Where a site needs connecting quickly with no existing infrastructure, the Antenna MAX S with Starlink Mini provides an all-in-one cellular and LEO satellite link in a single compact enclosure.
| Link Type | Role | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Cellular (LTE/5G) | Primary (field) | Low-data-plan cellular routers on equipment maximise range while keeping data costs down |
| Wi-Fi | Local device link | Tablets and IoT sensors on each tractor connect to the router over Wi-Fi |
| Satellite (Starlink) | Backup / standalone | Added as a wireless backup wherever DSL, cable or cellular coverage is limited, or as the primary link for rapid standalone sites |
| Wired (HQ) | Core hub link | The farm office provides wired connectivity as the hub of the SpeedFusion tunnel |
All links are bonded into one SpeedFusion tunnel between headquarters and the field, with every device monitored and configured remotely through InControl 2.
SpeedFusion™
Bonding technology
SpeedFusion™ is Peplink’s patented technology designed to eliminate the vulnerabilities of traditional networking. By combining multiple WAN sources such as 5G, satellite, and wired into a single high-speed, resilient data pipe.
InControl 2
Cloud management
InControl is a cloud-based endpoint management system. When connected to your devices, it aggregates data to generate useful reports on all aspects of your network. On a single screen, you can push configurations to any and all of your endpoints. If you need to dig deeper, you can remotely access the web admin of any device on your network.
Using InControl, you can save configuration time, minimize truck rolls, stay on top of the status of your network, and proactively resolve any emerging problems with speed and precision.
Customers obtain connectivity contracts with the relevant service providers directly. We can assist with 5G eSIM if needed.
The Result
Built for the sensors, not just the signal
Field equipment, sensors and the farm office now share one managed network. New machines join without a site visit, and the team can see the state of every connection from a single dashboard.
Hot Failover
The connection switches instantly if a link drops, so sensor data keeps flowing.
eSIM data plans
No physical SIM logistics across dozens of vehicles or sites.
Remote configuration
New tractors or sensors are added to the network without a site visit.
Remote monitoring
Check connectivity status across every farm from one dashboard.
From the tractor cab to the farm office, every device stays online and visible.
Deployment Architecture
Three site types, each built from products you can add straight to your cart.
Site Type A · Primary cellular
Mobile & remote deployment on every machine
One MAX BR2 LTE field router per machine, fed by a high-gain Mobility antenna over a 2 m coax cable and an eSIM data plan. In-cab devices connect to the router, and every unit is rolled out and managed through InControl 2, with InTouch giving remote access to the devices behind it.
